DANVILLE, KY — The No. 10-ranked Washington University women’s soccer team scored four goals in each half en route to an 8-0 win on Monday over host Piedmont University.
Seven different players scored goals for the Bears, led by grad student forward Madeline Allburn, who scored the first two goals of the game, which quickly allowed WashU to grab a lead it would never relinquish.
Teammates Ally Hackett and Meryl McKenna added goals in the first 45 minutes to give the Bears a 4-0 halftime lead. In the second half, Ella Koleno, Kaci Karl, Kerrigan Milan, and Madison Foley added scores that helped WashU blow Piedmont right off the pitch.
Overall, the Bears outshot the Lions 38 to 1, with 16 of those shots being on goal, while Piedmont’s lone shot was not on goal.
WashU goalkeeper Sophia Raudez earned her second shutout victory of the season in what turned out to be a light day’s work for her.
The Bears (2-0) will be back in action on Friday, September 8, when they’ll host their 2023 home opener against Carroll. That contest is set to begin at 3 p.m., and will be broadcasted live on the WashU Sports Network.
