As United Football League training camp approaches the St. Louis Battlehawks continue to work to improve their roster for the 2024 spring football season.
Late Friday, the UFL announced several free agents had been signed to play in the league this season. Three of those players will play for the Battlehawks.
Linebacker Willie Harvey, who played for St. Louis in the XFL last season, and offensive lineman Dohnovan West, who played for the Vegas Vipers in 2023, were two of the signees. The third name was an intriguing one for football fans — former Clemson star and New York Giants draft pick, Wayne Gallman.
Gallman, 29, had been out of football since 2022. Prior to that though, he played five seasons in the NFL — four with the New York Giants and his final year with the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings.
The Giants drafted Gallman as a fourth round pick in 2017. In 61 career games in the NFL, 14 of which were starts, Gallman rushed for 1,548 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. He also hauled in 81 receptions for 519 yards and two touchdowns.
In college, Gallman shared the running back duties for Clemson during his redshirt freshman season of 2014. He then took over as the Tigers’ primary ballcarrier during his sophomore and junior seasons.
During those years, the 6-1, 215-pounder from Loganville, Ga., rushed for 1,514 yards and 1,133 yards, respectively, and scored 31 combined touchdowns those seasons. He was also a part of Clemson’s national championship team in 2017 and a two-time All-ACC selections before leaving college for the pros.
UFL training camp will begin in a month, with all eyes set on the league’s opening day of March 30.
There are also rumors that the official 2024 UFL season schedule will be released on Monday.
