After getting walloped by crosstown rival Webster University in a matchup a week ago, the Washington University men’s basketball team returned the favor, Tuesday night at the Wash. U. Field House, by defeating the visiting Gorloks, 79-47.

The Bears got terrific production from a number of players, including senior guard Jack Nolan, who led all scorers with 23 points, to go along with nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Teammate Hayden Doyle had 13 points, including three three-pointers, five rebounds, and five assists. Kevin Davet added 11 points and nine rebounds, and Jake Wolf came off the bench to score 10 points and grab four rebounds, as the Bears won in going away fashion.

Wash. U. led 38-31 at halftime, but used a huge second half to pull away and take control of the game. The Bears outscored the Gorloks, 41-16, to make sure there was no chance Webster could pull off a comeback.

The victory lifted Wash. U.’s record to 3-1, but that will be tested this weekend when the Bears head down to Memphis to play in the Rhodes University Thanksgiving Tournament. Wash. U. will play two games in Memphis, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Bears will play Dubuque University at 4:30 p.m. Then on Sunday, depending on who wins and loses the Saturday games, the Bears will play either Rhodes or Westminster.

Wash. U.’s next home games will be next weekend, on December 3 and 4, when the Bears will host the 37th Annual Lopata Classic.

The Bears will play Hendrix on Friday, December 3, at the Wash. U. Field House at 5:30 p.m. The winner of that contest will then play the winner of the Hope/St. Thomas game that same day, on Saturday, December 4.

Wash. U.’s next non-tournament home game will be Wednesday, December 8, when the Bears will host Fontbonne at 8 p.m.
