KENOSHA, WI — The Washington University football team earned its third straight blowout victory, Saturday afternoon, when it went on the road and defeated Carthage University, 45-16, at that school’s Art Keller Field.

Wash. U. quarterback Matt Rush had another big game for the Bears, as he completed 25-of-33 passes for 395 yards and four touchdowns. Three different Wash. U. receivers had at least 100 yards and a touchdown, led by senior receiver Cole Okmin, who had six catches for 120 yards and a score.

Fellow wideouts Collin Goldberg and Collin Hohytya had 108 yards and 102 yards, respectively, and each also scored a touchdown.

On the ground, running backs Kenneth Hamilton and Fred Ware combined for 16 carries and 64 yards, and each also scored a touchdown.

Defensively, the Bears were led by the senior trio of Keiran Conjar, Gus Christensen, and Matthew Schmal. Conjar and Christensen had 11 tackles each, and Schmal added 10, as the Wash. U. held Carthage to 316 yards and just 23 total yards rushing.

Carthage actually scored the first points of the game, but Wash. U. answered with 31 straight points of its own to take a 31-3 lead early in the third quarter. Then, after the Firebirds scored a touchdown on the final play of the third quarter, the Bears added two more touchdowns of their own to go up 45-10 midway through the fourth.

Wash. U. scored 50-plus points in both of its first two games, and could’ve potentially gone for another score late in the game to try to reach that mark again. But once the game was in hand, head coach Aaron Keen pulled his starters and allowed the backups to play the final 9 minutes of the game.

The Bears are 3-0 overall on the season, and 2-0 in CCIW play. And they’ll look to keep that streak going next week, when they’ll travel up to Chicago on Saturday for a matchup against North Park.

Wash. U.’s next home game will come the following week, on October 8, when the Bears will host Illinois Wesleyan at Francis Olympic Field.
