ST. LOUIS, MO — In a game in which every member of its starting lineup had at least one hit, and the team scored nine runs in the final two innings, the Saint Louis University baseball team earned itself a 15-6 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Davidson College, Friday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Complex.
Saint Louis was led by Ethan Sitzman and Graham Mastros, who each had a two-run homer in the game and finished the day with three hits apiece. Sitzman had four RBIs, while Mastros had two and also scored two runs.
Easton Richter led off the game with a homer and Drew Winters homered as well to help SLU build a 6-0 lead through four innings.
Davidson responded with two runs in the fifth and four in the seventh to tie the score.
That forced the Billikens to go back to work, where Mastros blasted his fourth homer of the season in the bottom of the seventh to put SLU back ahead 9-6.
Sitzman followed with a two-run shot in the eighth inning — his fifth homer of the season — to put the Billikens up 11-6. A wild pitch and a string of bases loaded walks helped Saint Louis add to its lead and eventually close out the game.
On the pitching side, Jackson Holmes also presented a solid showing for the Billikens in his ninth start of the season, throwing for 6.1 innings while striking out seven batters. He got the win and is now 6-1 on the year.
The Billikens are now 23-8 on the season and remain in first place in the Atlantic 10 standings with a 6-2 conference mark. Davidson is 14-19 and 2-6 in the conference, which is tied for last place.
Game 2 of the series between the Billikens and Wildcats will be played on Saturday. First pitch at the Billiken Sports Complex is set for 2 p.m.
