Two of Saint Louis University’s top baseball players from last season were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday.
SLU outfielder Patrick Clohisy was picked in the 11th round (No. 341 overall) by the Atlanta Braves, while pitcher Evan Gray was taken in the 15th round (No. 448 overall) by the San Francisco Giants.
Clohisy, a St. Louis native, who attended Chaminade College Prep, hit .353 at Saint Louis over two seasons. He smashed 17 home runs and posted RBIs in his Billiken career. Clohisy began his college career at Purdue, appearing in 14 games over two seasons with the Boilermakers.
This past season, Clohisy led the Atlantic 10 Conference in batting average (.380), runs per game (1.16) and triples (0.12) while helping the Billikens to the A-10 regular-season title. He was a first-team All-Conference selection in 2024 after earning second-team plaudits in 2023.
Gray, a Belleville, Ill. native, pitched two seasons for the Billikens after beginning his collegiate career at the University of Arkansas. At SLU, he appeared in 29 games and struck out 45 batters in 41.2 innings pitched.
In 2024, Gray helped the Billikens to the Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season title after making 19 appearances out of the bullpen. Opponents hit just .192 against him and he struck out 33 batters in 29 innings of work. Gray posted three saves and a 3.41 ERA.
Clohisy and Gray were the 15th and 16th former SLU players to get drafted under head coach Darin Hendrickson.
