ST. LOUIS, MO — The Saint Louis University baseball team finished off its three-game series sweep over the University of Massachusetts by winning both games of a doubleheader at the Billiken Sports Complex on Sunday.
Saint Louis smacked out 34 hits, including seven home runs, in the two games, and won those contests by scores of 18-3 and 10-0.
The three weekend wins lifted SLU’s overall season record to 28-19 and its Atlantic 10 Conference mark to 16-8. The Billikens own sole possession of third place in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings — one game ahead of Davidson, which is in fourth place, and two games ahead of Saint Joseph’s, which sits in fifth.
Saint Louis is one game behind George Mason and Rhode Island, who are tied for first.

In Sunday’s opener, every player who batted for SLU reached base at least one time, with all of them but one having at least one hit.
The Billikens totaled 22 hits in the game, led by junior third baseman Chase Beattie, who had four hits, including two two-run homers. It was the third time this season Beattie had two homers in a game.
The Lake St. Louis, Mo., native, who went to Wentzville Holt High School, now has eight homers this season.
Sophomore first baseman Riley Iffrig had three hits, including two doubles, along with three RBIs and two stolen bases. Iffrig, who is from Edwardsville, Ill., leads Saint Louis with 48 RBIs this season.
Junior Max McGwire and freshman Hank Gomric both had three hits as well. McGwire’s hits included his fifth homer of the season, while Gomric’s three hits were a part of his 12th multi-hit game of the season.

On the mound, sophomore Josh Cunningham (5-1) made his ninth start of the season and earned his third straight win, after going six innings and giving up just one run on four hits, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Cunningham is now tied with fellow sophomore Owen Kelly for the Billiken team lead with five wins this season.

In the series finale, sophomore Brenden Stressler and senior Kamaehu Sanchez both had three hits. One of Stressler’s hits was his team-leading 11th homer of the season, while Sanchez hit two homers in the game to give him four dingers this year.
The Weber brothers, Jack and Charlie, did the pitching. Jack Weber (2-3) made the start and went five innings, with no runs, four hits, no walks, and two strikeouts to get the win. Charlie Weber pitched the final two innings and struck out three.
SLU will be in town, but on the road for its next game. The Billikens will travel to St. Charles to play a non-conference game against Lindenwood on Tuesday.
First pitch at the Lou Brock Sports Complex is scheduled for 5 p.m.
