PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Saint Louis University men’s soccer team had to rally back twice in the second half to force a 3-3 tie with host St. Joseph’s University in a key Atlantic 10 Conference match at SJU’s Sean Sweeney Field.

The host Hawks scored two goals in the first half to take a 2-0 half time lead. But Saint Louis rallied with two goals of its own to make the score 2-2.

SJU scored another goal to go up 3-2, but SLU added another score of its own with just over a minute to play to earn a tie, which allowed the Billikens to finish in a three-way tie for second place in the A-10 standings. Due to tiebreakers in its favor, SLU will be the No. 2 seed in the A-10 Championship Tournament, which will begin on Friday.

Saint Louis (8-4-4) will play Massachusetts (7-5-5), the No. 7 seed, in an A-10 Tournament quarterfinal game on Friday, November 3, at Hermann Stadium. That contest will kickoff at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, SJU played one of its best halves of the season to take a 2-0 lead. That forced SLU to answer with one of its best halves of the season to earn a tie.

Senior Diego Konincks got the Billikens on the board, when he headed in a quick corner kick and pass from teammates Seth Anderson and Mads Stistrup Petersen in the 50th minute.

Sophomore Matthew Wrobel tied the score at 2, in the 64th minute, when he banged home a rebound, following a shot attempt Stistrup Petersen, who finished the night with two assists.

SJU’s Alex Hood gave the Hawks the lead in the 81st minute. But that only set up Tanner Anderson’s dramatic putback score in the 89th minute, following a set up by Seth Anderson.

Without the tie, the Billikens would have slipped to the No. 5 seed and would have been on the road for next week’s conference tournament quarterfinals.

VCU won its game late Saturday night to earn the No. 1 seed and will host No. 8 seed Fordham. Loyola Chicago is the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 seed Dayton, while Davidson will be the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 seed Duquesne.
