FAIRFAX, VA — The Saint Louis University women’s soccer team extended its streak of nearly perfect play to seven straight games, Thursday night, when it defeated George Mason, 3-0, in an Atlantic 10 Conference match at the home team’s George Mason Stadium.

Three different players scored goals and two others added assists for Saint Louis, which is now 5-0-2 in its last seven games and hasn’t lost a game since the end of August.

Overall, the Billikens are 8-2-2 on the year and 3-0-1 in league play, which is tied with Massachusetts for first place in the A-10 standings. George Mason fell to 1-11 on the year and 1-3 in conference play.

Saint Louis controlled the action throughout the night and outshot George Mason 18-3, with seven of SLU’s shots being on goal to just one for Mason.

The Billikens got on the board early, when Hannah Larson scored her second goal of the season, in the game’s 5th minute, off a pass from teammate Emily Gaebe, who notched her third assist of the season.

The score remained 1-0 until early in the second half, when Hannah Sawyer gained control of a loose ball just inside the George Mason box. She was able to settle the ball, then fired a shot just under the crossbar and past the outstretched arms of the Mason goalkeeper, for her fourth goal of the year and a 2-0 SLU lead.

The final score of the night came in the game’s 58th minute, when Saint Louis’ Katie Houck took a corner kick from the field’s right side. Her pass soared over several players inside the George Mason box and went right to teammate Anna Lawler, who was able to redirect a header past every defender and into the net for her first goal of the season.

From that point on, the Billiken defense clamped down on the Patriots and didn’t allow any chance for a comeback.

SLU goalkeeper Emily Puricelli made one save to earn her 56th career win and 33rd career shutout.

The Billikens will play game two of their two-game road trip east on Sunday, October 1, when they’ll travel to Richmond, Va., to play VCU. Opening kick for that match is slated for noon.
