WASHINGTON, DC — The Saint Louis University men’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six and took over sole possession of first place in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings on Wednesday, when it defeated George Washington, 2-0, in a league match at the GW Soccer Field.

Billiken players Seth Anderson and Christian Buendia each scored a goal, and goalkeeper Mason Hart made five saves to earn his second straight shutout.

GW actually outshot Saint Louis 10-8, with five of those shots being on goal to just two for SLU. But the Billiken defense was stout and managed to keep the Revolutionaries off the board all night.

Anderson got the scoring started with his first goal of the season in the 14th minute. CJ Coppola split two defenders with a pass to Galen Flynn, who lifted a ball into the six that Anderson headed home for what would become the game-winner. SLU led 1-0 at halftime.

Buendia added an insurance tally in the 69th minute on a penalty kick, which came after GW was whistled for a handball in the box. That play came after an Anderson shot was stopped at the net. Buendia blasted the PK past the GW goalkeeper for his second goal of the season.

Saint Louis is now 5-3-2 on the season and 3-0-1 in A-10 play, while George Washington fell to 2-7-3 overall and 0-4 in the league.

The Billikens will be back at home and back in action on Saturday, when they’ll host La Salle in an A-10 match at Hermann Stadium. That contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
