PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Saint Louis University women’s soccer team put the final touches on another Atlantic 10 Conference regular season championship, with a 3-0 road win over Saint Joseph’s, Sunday afternoon at Sweeney Field.
The victory allowed Saint Louis to finish the regular season with a 9-0-1 conference record. The Billikens, who are 14-2-2 overall, have now won five of the last six A-10 regular season league titles.
Saint Louis also claimed home-field advantage throughout the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament, which will begin on Friday, October 27. The No. 1-seeded Billikens will host No. 8 seed VCU at Hermann Stadium at 7 p.m. Saint Joseph’s will be the No. 6 seed and will play No. 3 seed Dayton on Friday.
No. 2 seed La Salle will host No. 7 seed Rhode Island and No. 4 seed Massachusetts will take on No. 5 seed Duquesne. Following the quarterfinal round, pairings will be re-seeded heading into the semifinals, which will be played on the campuses of the two highest remaining seeds on Wednesday, November 1. The championship final will be played on the home field of the highest seed on Sunday, November 5.
The winner of the Atlantic 10 Tournament will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
In Sunday’s game, SLU’s Emily Gaebe — the league’s likely Player of the Year — scored her conference-best 12th and 13th goals of the season, and along with six assists, she now has 32 points. Both of those marks tie the SLU single-season record.
Hannah Sawyer scored the other Billiken goal, with just over two minutes left in the game.
Saint Louis also extended its winning and shutout streak to seven games and its unbeaten streak to 13 games. The Billikens last loss on August 31 and are 11-0-2 since that time.
