ST. LOUIS, MO — A fun season for the Saint Louis University men’s soccer team came to an end, Thursday night, when the Billikens lost, 2-0, to Kansas City in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Championship Tournament.
Saint Louis had earned an at-large bid after advancing to the championship round of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament, but wasn’t able to take advantage of being awarded a home first round game, as the visiting Kangaroos came to Hermann Stadium and outplayed the Billikens for the entire 90 minutes.
Kansas City scored twice in the second half, on goals by Guille Munoz and Jeremy Francou, and was able to use its defense to smother SLU’s offensive attack.
The Billikens outshot the Roos, 14-13, and had four corner kicks to just two for the visitors. But that wasn’t nearly enough, as the Billikens weren’t able to capitalize.
SLU finished its season with an 8-5-8 record. It was SLU’s seventh straight winning season under head coach Kevin Kalish.
Kansas City advances to the NCAA Tournament second round and will play No. 15 overall seed Missouri State on Sunday.
