ST. LOUIS, MO — A fun and exciting first half turned into a not fun at all, blowout second half, as the Saint Louis University men’s basketball team suffered an 84-61 loss to Davidson, Wednesday night at Chaifetz Arena.
Saint Louis led 31-28 at halftime, even though it missed all 12 three-pointers it attempted, and held Davidson to 30 percent shooting. But in the second half, the visiting Wildcats shot a blazing 62.5 percent (20-of-32), while the Billikens shot 30.7 percent and were outscored 56-30.
Four Davidson players scored in double figures, led by Grant Huffman, who put up a game-high 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting, and also had five assists.
SLU was led by Bradley Ezewiro, who had a career-high 20 points and six rebounds. Terrence Hargrove, Jr., had 14 points and six rebounds, while Sincere Parker scored 10 points off the bench.
Davidson took control of the game just as the second half began. The Wildcats scored the first nine points to take a 37-31 lead.
Parker hit back-to-back three-pointers to even the score with 17:30 left, but Davidson responded with a 14-4 run that gave them a lead they would never relinquish. The Billikens got as close as six points midway through the second half, but never really got themselves back into the game.
The loss dropped SLU’s season record to 8-11 and its Atlantic 10 Conference mark to 1-5. It was also SLU’s third straight loss.
The club will try to get back on the winning track when it hosts Massachusetts in another A-10 league game on Saturday.
Tip off for that contest is slated for 7 p.m., and the game will be televised locally on Bally Sports Midwest.
