TYSONS, VA — The Saint Louis University baseball team jumped out to a huge lead and kept adding to it, on its way to a 10-2 win over Fordham University in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament, Tuesday night at Capital One Park.
Sophomore Riley Iffrig had three hits and three RBIS, while fellow sophomore Brenden Stressler had two hits and four RBIs, including his team-leading 12th home run of the season to lead Saint Louis.
A third sophomore, Josh Cunningham, pitched six shutout innings and gave up just three hits and one walk, while posting six strikeouts to get the win. Cunningham is now 6-2 on the season and tied with freshman Owen Kelly for the team lead in pitching wins.
Relievers Richie Cimpric and Kobe Allen got the Billikens through the final three innings. Both gave up a run, but neither faced any major danger as SLU moved on to the second round of the A-10 Tournament.

The Billikens struck first when Stressler singled to drive in Hayden Moore. Junior designated hitter Max McGwire followed with his seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot that gave SLU a 3-0 lead.
Iffrig added a two-run double and Stressler homered in the second inning to extend the lead to 7-0. Stressler picked up another RBI in the fourth to make it 8-0, and Iffrig drove in his third run of the day in the sixth for a 9-0 advantage.
The Billikens led 10-1 going into the ninth inning.
Saint Louis will play George Mason in the second round on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 2 pm, with the winner advancing to the tournament semifinals on Friday. The loser will play in an elimination game at 10 a.m. on Friday.
The tournament championship game is set for Saturday at 11 a.m.
