ST. LOUIS, MO — Five different players scored goals and the Saint Louis University women’s soccer team took over first place in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings, following a 5-0 win, Thursday night over George Mason at Hermann Stadium.
Saint Louis, which is now 11-1-5 on the season and 7-0-2 in Atlantic 10 play, won its fifth straight game and extended its unbeaten streak to 12 games by shutting out GMU. SLU’s victory, coupled with a loss by previously unbeaten Dayton, also allowed the Billikens to move into first place in the conference with just one more regular season game left on the schedule.
That contest figures to be a showdown, as the Billikens will go on the road to take on Dayton on Sunday. If SLU wins or ties, it will win the regular season championship. Dayton, which is 7-1-1 in league play, must win to claim the title for themselves.

Saint Louis scored three goals in the first half and two in the second, as it dominated the action against George Mason all night. SLU outshot GMU 30-5, with 19 of its shots being on goal, while none of the Patriots shots made it to the net.
Julia Simon, Audrey Smith, and Nina Preusser scored for the Billikens in the first half, with Hope Kim and Caigan Leonard adding scores in the second.
Simon’s goal was her third of the season. Smith’s score was her fourth. And Preusser’s tally was her first of the season and second of her career.
Kim’s goal was her fourth of the season, which ties the freshman with Smith, Hannah Sawyer, and Lyndsey Heckel for second-most on the team this year. Leonard, another Billiken freshman, scored her first goal as a college player.

The winner of Sunday’s SLU-Dayton game will not only be the A-10 regular season champion, that team will also be the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament, which will begin next weekend. The seeding and bracket has not been set yet, but Saint Louis knows it will host a quarterfinal game on Saturday, November 2 at Hermann Stadium at 7 p.m.
The semifinals will be Wednesday, November 6, with the championship game scheduled for Sunday, November 10.
