After winning its sixth Atlantic 10 Conference regular season championship last week, the Saint Louis University baseball team earned the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the conference tournament championship, which will be played this week at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va.
Seven teams earned a berth in this year’s tournament and teams two through seven played games on Tuesday. The only team that had the day off was Saint Louis.
But the Billikens will begin play on Wednesday, with a game against No. 4 seed Richmond, which defeated No. 5 seed George Washington 12-4 on Tuesday.
SLU and Richmond will play the first game of the day on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m.
The winner of that contest will advance to a winner’s bracket game on Friday against the winner of the second game of the day on Wednesday between No. 2 seed VCU and No. 3 seed Dayton. The two winners will play on Friday at 10 a.m., with the winner of that game advancing to the tournament’s championship round on Saturday.
The event is a double-elimination tournament, so all other games will be win and advance or lose and go home. The final game of the day on Wednesday, will be such a game between No. 6 seed UMass and No. 7 seed Saint Joseph’s. Those two teams lost their games on Day 1 against Dayton and VCU, respectively.
The winner of the A-10 Tournament will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, which will begin around the country next weekend.
Saint Louis is hoping to earn its first NCAA Tournament bid since 2018.
