ST. LOUIS, MO — The tough opponents keep coming for the Saint Louis University men’s basketball team, as it will host Saint Joseph’s University, Wednesday night at Chaifetz Arena.
The Billikens will be looking for their first Atlantic 10 Conference win of the season, following losses to Loyola-Chicago and George Mason. Saint Joe’s is also looking for its first league win, after falling to Rhode Island in a tight one, 78-74, last Wednesday.
Both clubs had postseason aspirations before the season began. Now both are in the position where they need to pick up some wins if they’re going to get there.
Players to Watch: Bradley Ezewiro is four games into his Billiken career and is averaging 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds. He posted his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds Jan. 3 against Loyola Chicago, and he has led the Billikens in rebounding in each of the last three games. Ezewiro became eligible on Dec. 15 with the rest of the NCAA’s two-time transfers.
Gibson Jimerson (16.3 ppg) has led the Bills in scoring in five out of the last six games. He scored 20 points at George Mason to move into eighth on the Billikens’ all-time scoring list.
Larry Hughes II tied a career high with 12 points at George Mason. He has combined for seven 3s in the last two games.
East St. Louis native Terrence Hargrove Jr. averages 13.4 ppg and 6.1 rpg. He shoots 52.2 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from 3.
The Hawks are among the top 3-point shooting teams in the country. They make 11.1 per game, which ranks sixth in the NCAA. Their 30.6 attempts per game is fifth nationally.
Defensively, teams shoot just 37.7 percent from the field against the Hawks. That’s the top defensive mark in the A-10 and ranks sixth nationally.
Erik Reynolds II leads SJU with 16.9 ppg, which ranks among the top in the league. Reynolds’ 3.43 3-pointers per game leads the A-10 and is ninth nationally.
Reynolds II, Xzayvier Brown and Cameron Brown and have combined to shoot 41.7 percent (111-266) from 3-point range.
Up Next: SLU gets the weekend off, before hitting the road for its next two games.
The Billikens will play at Dayton, next Tuesday, January 17, before heading to VCU, next Friday, January 19.
SLU’s next home game will be on January 24, when the Billikens will host Davidson.
