ST. LOUIS, MO — The Saint Louis University men’s basketball team will host Utah State, Tuesday night at Chaifetz Arena. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
The Billikens are coming off a one-point win, last Saturday, against Dartmouth. Saint Louis is now 5-2 on the season.
Utah State will come into tonight’s matchup with a 5-1 record. The Aggies have won four in a row, after losing their first and only true road game of the season against Bradley back on November 11.
Last week, Utah State won the Cayman Islands Classic by defeating Marshall, Akron, and Stephen F. Austin.
Last season, the Aggies went 26-9 and earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. In the offseason, head coach Ryan Odom was hired at VCU. Utah State then hired Danny Sprinkle from Montana State, after he took that team to two NCAA Tournaments.
Players to Watch: SLU leading scorer Sincere Parker is still out with a foot injury, and may be out until after Christmas. That means the Billikens will have to rely on a slew of players to help put the ball in the basket.
Senior forward Terrence Hargrove is the club’s second-leading scorer. He averages 15.7 points per game and leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.
Redshirt junior and preseason all-Atlantic 10 Conference selection Gibson Jimerson scored 23 points in SLU’s win over Dartmouth. The Billikens will definitely need more of that against the high-powered Aggies.
Great Osobor, a 6-8 wing who played for Sprinkle at Montana State, averages a double-double of 20.5 ppg and 10.0 rpg. Darius Brown II, another Montana State transfer, scores 11.7 ppg and is among the nation’s leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio (6.71) and assists per game (7.8). Utah State features a seven-foot center in Isaac Johnson, a transfer from Oregon. He is averaging 6.2 ppg this season.
Utah State ranks third in the NCAA in 3-point percentage defense, with teams shooting just 22 percent against the Aggies from beyond the arc. Also, the Aggies are 11th in the NCAA in assists per game (19.2) and 11th in FG% (.520).
Up Next: Saint Louis will be on the road for its next two games. The Billikens will play at Southern Illinois on Saturday, December 2, then follow that with a game at Drake on December 6.
SLU’s next home game will be on Saturday, December 9, against Hofstra.
