The Lindenwood University men’s basketball team will return to the court Tuesday night, when it will host NCAA Division III Westminster College at Hyland Arena in St. Charles.
The Lions (3-1) are coming off three straight exciting victories, including a win in their first road game of the season, this past Saturday night, down in Memphis against Christian Brothers University.
Lindenwood trailed by a basket with less than 90 seconds remaining, but scored the final five points of the game to win it 80-77.
Westminster (3-3) has won three of its last four contests, including an 81-68 victory over Dallas University, this past Saturday at the Webster Classic.
Like Lindenwood, the Blue Jays are a high-scoring bunch, who average 79.8 points per game, and have three players that average more than 10 ppg.
Tuesday’s matchup will be the first time Lindenwood and Westminster have played one another since a 2012 contest the Lions won 78-45.
Players to Watch: Lindenwood is led by two of the highest scoring duos in the nation, in senior guard Jacoby Ross and senior forward Romelo Burrell.
Ross, a transfer from Alabama State, who was the SWAC Freshman of the Year in 2019, leads the Lions and ranks 23rd nationally with a 23.8 ppg average. He had 35 points, including five three-pointers, in Lindenwood’s win over Kentucky Wesleyan 10 days ago.
And Burrell, who’s in his second season with the Lions, after playing at Central Michigan, is tied for 36th in the nation with a 21.5 ppg average.
Ross and Burrell are first and second in scoring among all Great Lakes Valley Conference players.
Westminster also has a pair of quality scoring seniors in 5-10 guard Landon Harrison (16.0 ppg) and 6-5 forward Jaxon Althaus (14.8). The Blue Jays also have bruising post player in sophomore forward Tre Kempker, who averages 12.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Up Next: Lindenwood will get the rest of the holiday weekend off, before it begins a big week of conference play with home games against Maryville, Quincy, and UMSL next week.
The Lions will host Maryville on Monday, November 29, then play Quincy on Thursday, December 2, before concluding the week with a matchup against archrival UMSL on Saturday, December 4.
The games against Maryville and Quincy will tipoff at 7:30 p.m., while the UMSL game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. After playing Lindenwood on Tuesday, Westminster will travel down to Memphis, where it will play in the Rhodes College Thanksgiving Tournament.
