NASHVILLE, TN — Fresh off a much-needed bye week, the Lindenwood University football team will get back on the field, this Saturday, when it travels down south to take on Big South-OVC Football Association foe, Tennessee State.
The Lions, who are 3-4 on the season, are coming off a 24-10 loss, two weeks ago against Charleston Southern. Lindenwood moved the ball pretty well in that game, and finished with 292 total yards.
Unfortunately though, the Lions weren’t able to turn those yards into very many points and eventually fell to a Charleston Southern team that was able to put up 379 total yards.
Tennessee State has been enjoying its best season in almost a decade. The Blue Tigers are 5-2 this year and just one win away from securing their first winning season since 2017.
Players to Watch: Lindenwood WR Jeff Caldwell, Jr. is having a fine season. He leads the Big South-OVC with seven touchdown catches and is second in the league in receiving yards (519).
On the defensive side of the ball, Lindenwood is led by DE Kobe McClendon, who is second in the league and ranks fifth in all of FCS with 6.5 quarterback sacks this year.
Tennessee State features one of the top one-two RB combos in the league in sophomore Jalen Rouse and redshirt freshman Jordan Gant.
Rouse leads the Blue Tigers with 87 carries for 358 rushing yards. He also has scored two touchdowns.
Gant is right behind with 79 carries for 345 yards, but leads the team with seven touchdowns. In last week’s 54-0 win over Lincoln, Gant scored four touchdowns on his way to being named Big South-OVC Freshman of the Week.
Senior defensive end Terrell Allen leads the conference with nine QB sacks.
Up Next: The Lions will be back home for Homecoming weekend, next Saturday, when they’ll host Eastern Illinois. Kickoff that day is set for 2 p.m.
Tennessee State will be on the road next weekend to play Charleston Southern.
