After enjoying a thrilling Homecoming Day victory last Saturday over Quincy, the Lindenwood University football team will head back out on the road this Saturday, for a much-anticipated showdown with Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason favorite Indianapolis.

The Lions and Greyhounds have matching 4-2 overall records and 2-0 marks in GLVC play, which has them tied for first place in the conference standings. Fans of the league have been waiting for this matchup since the season schedule came out last spring.

Lindenwood won the GLVC title in 2019, in large part, because the Lions pulled off a huge upset over the then-No. 8 ranked Greyhounds in a 34-27 thriller at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles.

That loss was UIndy’s first in GLVC play in four seasons and ended the Greyhounds’ run of five straight GLVC championships.

Both Lindenwood and UIndy made the NCAA Division II playoffs in 2019, marking the first time in conference history two teams from the league made the postseason in the same season.

Players to Watch: Both clubs feature top notch quarterback and running back combos in Cade Brister and Robert Giaimo for Lindenwood, and Bryce Stancombe and Torian Clinton for UIndy.

Brister, the 2019 GLVC Offensive Player of the Year, comes in to Saturday’s contest third overall in the conference with 1,405 passing yards and nine touchdown passes. He’s also rushed for seven touchdowns this season.

Giaimo, who took over as Lindenwood’s starting tailback three weeks ago and has now become one of the leading candidates for GLVC Freshman of the Year, currently ranks fourth in the conference in rushing, with 405 yards and six touchdowns.

The freshman from Bartlett, Tenn., is coming off three straight 100-yard games, including 119 yards and a touchdown last week against Quincy.

UIndy’s Clinton is the leading rusher in the GLVC this season. In just six games, he already has 1,058 yards and a league-high 13 touchdowns. Stancombe is averaging 212.8 passing yards per game and has tossed 11 touchdown passes with just one interception.

Up Next: Lindenwood will be back home next week, hosting its annual Community Day game, next Saturday at Hunter Stadium, against Southwest Baptist. Kickoff for that contest is set for 1 p.m.

UIndy will be back on the road with a game at Quincy next Saturday.
