After beginning the new month with a tough road trip that saw its five-game winning streak snapped by a pair of losses to Indianapolis and No. 14-ranked Lewis, the Lindenwood University women’s volleyball team got back on the winning track with a convincing win over Rockhurst this past Tuesday night.
The Lions will now look to turn that win into a new winning steak when it hosts Quincy, Friday night at Hyland Arena.
Quincy comes to town on a similar run, after having a three-game winning streak snapped with a pair of road losses last weekend, but then winning its last match on Tuesday against Drury.
Friday’s contest will be a matchup of second-place and third- place teams, as Lindenwood is two games behind UMSL in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Central Division and Quincy is three games back.
Players to Watch: Lindenwood is led by junior middle blocker Mackenzi Sifuentes, the GLVC leader in hitting percentage. Sophomore teammate Rebecca Janke is second in hitting percentage and leads the Lions in kills (133), but Sifuentes leads the league in hitting with a .412 percentage.
Another top Lindenwood player is junior setter Allie Otten, who leads the team in assists and is second in digs. Her 523 assists is fifth-most in the GLVC this season.
Quincy’s top players are hitters Emily Rehagen (189 kills) and Mattie Norris (159 kills), along with setter Makayla Knoblauch, who has 455 assists and a 10.34 assists per set average that ranks second in the GLVC this season.
Up Next: Both clubs will play in the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament, next weekend in Hammond, Indiana. That event is the largest NCAA volleyball tournament in the country and will feature teams from the GLVC and the Great Midwest Athletic and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conferences.
Lindenwood’s next match in town, will come on October 29, when the Lions will take on crosstown rival UMSL at UMSL’s Mark Twain Building. The Lions’ next home match will be Tuesday, November 2, against Maryville.
