AUBURN, AL — The University of Missouri men’s basketball team will begin play in the 2025 portion of its schedule on Saturday, when it travels down south to take on No. 2-ranked Auburn.
Missouri will enter Saturday’s showdown with an 11-2 record, following their win over Alabama State on Monday.
Auburn is 12-1, has won five straight games, and was the champions of the Maui Invitational, which it won with victories over then-No. 5 Iowa State and then-No. 12 North Carolina.
Players to Watch: Two of the nation’s highest scoring offenses will meet in Saturday’s matchup. Auburn will enter ranked fifth nationally, at 88.3 points per game, while Mizzou will come in 10th, averaging 87.3 points per game.
The black & gold Tigers are led by junior forward Mark Mitchell (13.8 ppg, 5.0 rpg) and grad student guard Tamar Bates (12.9 ppg, 36 percent from three). Mizzou also features a pair of top notch combo guards in sophomore Anthony Robinson II and Tony Perkins.
Senior post man Johni Broome is fourth in the SEC in scoring (18.2 ppg) and leads the league in rebounding (11.5 rpg).
Four other teammates also average double-figures, including Chad Baker-Mazara (12.8 ppg), Tahaad Pettiford (11.2 ppg), Denver Jones (11.1 ppg), and Chaney Johnson (10.4 ppg).
Mizzou fans will also be happy to see senior guard Caleb Grill back on the court. He missed five games due to a neck injury, but made his return in MU’s last game against Alabama State.
Grill is averaging 12.6 ppg this season and leads the SEC in three-point shooting with a 51.1 percent average.
