COLUMBIA, MO — The University of Missouri men’s basketball team will open the 2023-24 season Monday night at renovated Mizzou Arena, by hosting Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a contest that will tip off at 7 p.m.

The Tigers are coming off a phenomenal first season under head coach Dennis Gates. Missouri went 25-10, finished fourth in the SEC, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. It was the type of campaign that restored the excitement in all for Mizzou basketball.

Now the question is, can the Tigers do it again?

Arkansas-Pine Bluff is coming off a rough year. The Golden Lions went 10-21 last year and finished ninth in the SWAC.

The question for them coming into the new year is, is their older team better?

We’ll all get our first look at Mizzou and UAPB on Monday night.

Players to Watch: Many of Mizzou’s top players graduated and are playing pro ball now, including NBA players Kobe Brown and D’Moi Hodge.

This year’s Tigers will be led by top returning scorer, Noah Carter, a 6’6 senior, who averaged 9.6 points and 4.0 rebounds last year. Mizzou will also feature a potent one-two punch at point guard with seniors Nick Honor and Sean East. The combo led Missouri in assists last year. Honor had 103, while East came off the bench and produced 89 assists.

Tiger fans will also get their first look at transfers Tamar Bates (Indiana), John Tonje (Colorado State), Caleb Grill (Iowa State), and 7-foot-5 center Connor Vanover (Oral Roberts).

UAPB’s top returning scorer is 6’4 combo guard Kylen Milton, who averaged 13.2 points and 4.2 assists per game last year.

Up Next: Mizzou will be back in action with a big early season matchup on Friday, November 10, when the Tigers will host Memphis at Mizzou Arena. Tip off for that contest is slated for 8 p.m., and the game will be televised nationally on SEC Network.
