TUSCALOOSA, AL — Fresh off its thrilling, last-second Homecoming Day win over Auburn last week, the University of Missouri football team will face what many believe to be its biggest game of the 2024 season on Saturday, when the Tigers hit the deep down south to take on Alabama.

Missouri is ranked No. 21 in the country and Alabama is No. 15. Their matchup on Saturday will be one of five that features two Top 25 ranked teams.

Some are also calling the Mizzou/Bama matchup a potential playoff elimination game, with the loser likely losing any chance to make the CFP playoffs.

Alabama (5-2) already has two losses and can’t afford a third, while Missouri (6-1) only has one, but would have two rough losses if it doesn’t defeated the Crimson Tide on Saturday.

The loser will almost certainly not make the playoffs. The winner also keeps its hopes alive for possibly making the SEC championship game.

This is a must-win for both teams.

Players to Watch: For Mizzou fans, all eyes will be on the quarterback position and whether or not senior Brady Cook is able to play. Last week, he got injured on Mizzou’s first drive and sat out until late in the third quarter.

The Tigers fell behind and looked down and out, until Cook returned and led his team to a sensational come-from-behind win. Backup QB Drew Pyne didn’t look at all comfortable under center, so Missouri fans are hoping against hope that Cook is able to play on Saturday.

Mizzou does already know that it’ll be without starting running back Nate Noel, who tried to play last week, but also got injured. RBs Marcus Carroll, Jamal Roberts, and Kewan Lacy have shown themselves capable of filling the void.

Carroll has 321 rushing yards and six touchdowns this season. Roberts, who often plays in third-down situations, has three rushing touchdowns and one receiving score this season.

The Mizzou defense is led by LB Corey Flagg, Jr., S Marvin Burks, Jr., and DL Chris McClellan and Zion Young.

Alabama, which has struggled in each of its last three games and lost two of the three, is led by junior quarterback Jalen Milroe, who is fifth in the SEC in passing with 1,722 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Bama’s top playmaker though is 17 year old, true freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams, who has 31 catches and is second in the conference with 649 yards and leads the league with seven receiving touchdowns.

Bama linebackers Deontae Lawson (61) and Jihaad Campbell (58) are fourth and sixth, respectively, in the SEC in tackles.

Up Next: Win or lose, Mizzou will get a much-needed bye next week before returning to action in two weeks with a much-anticipated meeting with former Big 8/Big 12 rival Oklahoma. That game will be at Faurot Field on October 9.
