COLUMBIA, SC — There’s only two Top 25 matchups where both teams are ranked on this weekend’s college football schedule.
The big one is the Saturday Night Down South matchup between No. 7 Tennessee and No. 12 Georgia.
The other one — the early afternoon appetizer — is the Saturday at 3:15 p.m. “Mayor’s Cup” battle between No. 23 Missouri (7-2, 3-2) and No. 21 South Carolina (6-3, 4-3). This will be the 15th time Missouri and South Carolina will meet.
The Tigers hold a 9-5 all-time edge, which includes the last five contests, dating back to 2019, with two of those wins coming in South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium in 2020 and 2022.
Mizzou is coming off a thrilling victory, in which it scored two touchdowns in the final 63 seconds to comeback and defeat Oklahoma, 30-21. South Carolina is coming off a dominant 28-7 win over then-No. 24 Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks led throughout and put up more than 450 yards of total offense in what proved to be their third straight win since a narrow loss to Alabama on October 12.

Players to Watch: Mizzou will again be without QB Brady Cook, which means backup Drew Pyne will start for the second straight week. Last week, the former Notre Dame transfer threw for 143 yards and three touchdowns, as the Tigers struggled on offense in the first half, but looked mighty good in the second.
WRs Luther Burden III and Theo Wease, Jr. both made big plays as well. Burden caught a team-high five passes for 55 yards, including a key third down catch on Mizzou’s last scoring drive. And Wease finished with a game-high 70 receiving yards and two touchdown catches, including a leaping grab with a minute left that help tie the game at 23.
The Tiger defense was also fantastic. LBs Corey Flagg and Triston Newson had big nights.
Flagg made a team-high 14 tackles and Newson, who afterward was named the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, had 10 tackles (six solo), with 2.5 tackles for loss, a quarterback sack, and the forced fumble that was picked up by teammate Zion Young and returned for what proved to be the game-winning touchdown.
Mizzou forced six fumbles in the game and recovered four of them.

RB Raheim “Rocket” Sanders ran for 126 yards, two touchdowns, and caught a third touchdown pass to lead the South Carolina offense last week. It was his second straight 100-yard rushing game and third this season. For the season, Sanders has scored 11 touchdowns.
QB LaNorris Sellers is one of the top dual threat players in the conference. Since taking over under center for the Gamecocks, Sellers has passed for 1,450 yards and rushed for 391 yards, with a combined 13 touchdowns.
DE Kyle Kennard is tied for the SEC lead with 9.5 sacks and tops the league with 13.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage this season. The Georgia Tech transfer has fueled a defense that’s fourth in fewest points allowed in the SEC this season.
