FAYETEVILLE, AR — The amazing 2023 University of Missouri football season has one regular season game left. The Tigers will head down to Arkansas to take on their rivals from the south in the annual Battle Line Rivalry Game at Razorback Stadium.

Missouri is 9-2 on the year and will be going for its first 10-win season since 2023. A 10-2 record going into the bowl season would also make the No. 9-ranked Tigers prime candidates to play in one of the New Year’s Six bowl games.

The Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl will serve as the College Football Playoff semifinal games, with the winners advancing to the national championship game on January 8.

The Cotton Bowl (Dec. 29 in Dallas), Fiesta Bowl (Jan. 1 in Glendale, Ariz.), Orange Bowl (Dec. 30 in Miami), and Peach Bowl (Dec. 30 in Atlanta) are the other choices, and Mizzou fans would be happy to play in any of them. But first, the Tigers have to close out the regular season with a win over Arkansas.

The Razorbacks are 4-7 this season, but have won two of their last three, including an overtime thriller three weeks ago at Florida and a soul-cleansing blowout victory over Florida International last week.

Arkansas won’t be going to any bowl games this year, so the closest thing it will get is Saturday’s regular season finale against Missouri. Razorback fans make a big point to say this matchup is not a rivalry game for them. But this year, it seems like it might be. They would love nothing more than to ruin Mizzou’s dream of playing in one of the New Year’s Six bowl games.

Players to Watch: Last week, Missouri got another set of big performances from its big three of quarterback Brady Cook, running back Cody Schrader, and wide receiver Luther Burden III.

Cook threw for 331 yards and a touchdown. Schrader, the SEC’s leading rusher, carried for 148 yards and a touchdown. And Burden had nine catches for 158 yards, including the huge 27-yard gain on 4th-and-17 that kept Mizzou’s game-winning drive going with the clock running out.

Senior wideout Theo Wease also had a big play. He scored on a 77-yard catch and run that brought the entire Faurot Field crowd to its feet.

On defense, JC Carlies had seven tackles and an interception and Darius Robinson had five tackles, two for loss, including his seventh quarterback sack of the season.

Arkansas is led by dual threat quarterback K.J. Jefferson, who has 2,105 passing yards, 19 touchdown passes, and also leads the Razorbacks in rushing with 432 yards and two touchdowns.

Injuries have been an issue for Arkansas in the backfield this season, but senior receiver Andrew Armstrong has 52 catches for 724 yards and four touchdowns. Fellow senior Isaiah Sategna leads the Razorbacks with 831 all-purpose yards and has two touchdown receptions and a punt return for a score this year.

Arkansas’s defense is led by Jaheim Thomas, who has 87 tackles and 3.5 quarterback sacks. Defensive ends Landon Jackson and former Tiger Trajan Jeffcoat lead the Razorbacks with 6.5 and 4.0 sacks, respectively.

Up Next: Mizzou will find out, like everyone else, on December 3 which bowl game its going to. Several publications are currently predicting it might be Mizzou versus the Big 12 champion, most likely Texas, in the Cotton Bowl on December 29.

Other services suggest the Tigers may face Penn State in the Peach Bowl on December 30. But none of it is for sure until Mizzou handles business against Arkansas.
