MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The University of Missouri men’s basketball team will play its first road game of the season on Thursday, when it travels up north to play Minnesota, Thursday night at Williams Arena. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
Missouri went 2-1 in its three-game homestand to begin the year, with the Tigers winning games over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and SIU-Edwardsville, but suffering a loss to Memphis. Minnesota is 2-0 on the year, having won its first two against Bethune-Cookman and Texas-San Antonio.
The meeting is just the third time the Tigers and Golden Gophers will have played one another in basketball and the first time in over 60 years. The teams last met in a home-and-home series in 1958 and 1960, with Minnesota winning both games.
Players to Watch: Mizzou will be led by its three grad student seniors, Noah Carter, Sean East, and Nick Honor. All three are averaging double-figures in scoring, with East leading the way at 18.3 points per game.
Carter has put up 13.3 ppg and is also Mizzou’s leading rebounder at 7.7 per game. Honor averages 10.3 ppg.
Fans will also get their first look at 7-5 big man Connor Vanover, who sat out Mizzou’s first three games due to an NCAA suspension for participating in an NBA Draft event during the offseason.
Minnesota is led by junior forward Dawson Garcia, the current Big 10 Player of the Week, who averages 22.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. Three other Golden Gopher players score in double figures, including Cam Christie, who averages 18.0 ppg.
Last season, Minnesota went 9-22 and finished 2-17 in the Big Ten.
Up Next: It’ll be a one game road trip for the Tigers. The team will be back at Mizzou Arena on Sunday, for a game against Jackson State.
