LAKELAND, FL — University of Missouri-St. Louis newcomer Troy Glover II helped the Tritons pick up their first win of the new season, Sunday afternoon, when he put up 20 points and 14 rebounds in a 76-73 upset win over No. 16 Bentley University on the final day of the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.

Glover, a 6-foot-10 sophomore from Wheaton, Ill., was playing just his second game as a Triton and though he didn’t start, he was the star of the game for UMSL. The transfer from Trinity Christian, dominated the paint area for the Tritons and led the team in scoring, rebounds, shots made, blocked shots, and steals.

It was Glover’s presence that held Bentley big men Aaron Latham and Kellen Bocheneck to a combined 5-of-20 shooting and a total of five rebounds.

UMSL teammates Emanuel Prospere, Matt Enright, and Janeir Harris also had fine performances. Prospere scored 18 points, Enright had 15, and Harris had 13. The three also combined to make 18 shots and was a combined 8-of-17 from three-point land. All three had five rebounds apiece and Enright posted a game-high six assists.

The game began in Bentley’s favor, as the Falcons made eight of its first 11 shots to take a 24-14 lead. That 10-point edge was the largest lead either team would have in the game.

UMSL responded by getting hot in the final eight minutes of the first half, as the Tritons made nine of its first 14 shots and went on a 20-5 run to close the half and take a 34-29 lead into halftime.

Bentley went on a 24-9 lead through the middle part of the second half to go ahead 57-52 with just under seven minutes remaining.

UMSL responded again though. This time, by going on a 10-2 run, capped by a Glover slam dunk and a pair of free throws that gave the Tritons a 62-59 lead with 5:27 remaining in the game.

Bentley tied the game with a transition three by Bochenek, but the Falcons never could retake the lead, as UMSL scored seven of the next eight points to go up 69-63 with 3:01 left. The Falcons made a push in the final minute to get within two with 0:19 left, but UMSL’s Terrell Kabala put the game away with a breakaway dunk with 15 seconds to go.

The Tritons shot 55 percent (16-for-29) from the field in the second half including 6-of-11 from three to finish the game shooting 50 percent (31-for-62) from the floor and 38 percent from three. They outrebounded Bentley 38-to-31, and led by Glover, outscored the Falcons 42-to-20 in the paint.

UMSL is now 1-1 on the season and will go for its second win on Thursday, when it travels to Minnesota to Winona State.
