The Gateway Grizzlies announced on Tuesday that catcher/outfielder Kevin Krause had been selected as the final Frontier League Player of the Week for 2022. He is the second Grizzlie to win the award in 2022, joining Peter Zimmermann, who took home the honor following the first week of the season back in May.
The Staten Island, NY native was impossible to get out in seven games this past week, batting an astounding .682 (15-for-22) with three doubles, one triple, one home run, and seven RBIs.
Krause also drew 10 walks and one hit-by-pitch while striking out just three times for an on-base percentage of .788, resulting in an other-worldly 1.833 OPS against the Schaumburg Boomers, Windy City ThunderBolts, and Lake Erie Crushers.
In the process, Krause tied his career-high with four hits in a single game not just once, but twice, and had multiple hits in four of the seven games the Grizzlies played this week, helping Gateway win six of those final seven contests en route to a final record of 47-49, marking their highest win total as a franchise since 2014.
Overall, Krause, who the Grizzlies signed in July to bolster their offense, finished the season on a 17-game on-base streak, with a batting average of .338, 10 home runs, 36 RBIs, 11 doubles, and a .437 on-base percentage over 40 games with the club.
