ST. LOUIS, MO — Saint Louis University got two goals from Luis Lara, including the game-tying score in the 84th minute, to secure a 2-2 draw against Lipscomb University, in a non-conference NCAA men’s soccer match at Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens are 2-2-2 on the season. Lipscomb is 2-2-3.
The visitors from Nashville scored twice in the second half and were just a few minutes away from securing what would have been a huge road win over Saint Louis. But Lara and teammate Max Floriani hooked up on a brilliant play for the tying goal with just over five minutes to play.
Anderson had the ball on a break and drew the attention of the Lipscomb defense. That allowed Lara to make a run and Anderson found him all alone in the Lipscomb box.
Lara made a single-tap move around the Lipscomb goalkeeper then calmly guided the ball into the net for a score that made the score 2-2.
It was Lara’s second goal of the night and third of the season. His first goal on Tuesday came in the first half on a similar play as the second, only that time it was set up by senior Seth Anderson, who now leads Saint Louis with four assists this season.

Lipscomb tied the game in the 5oth minute, when SLU goalkeeper Jeremi Abonnel was forced to make a diving save. The ball deflected to Lipscomb’s William Bryan, who re-directed it into the SLU net to make the score 1-1.
The Bison took the lead in the 67th minute on a penalty kick by Daniel Stampatori. For both Lipscomb players, it was their first goals of the season.
Suddenly down a goal, with a just over 20 minutes to play, Saint Louis turned up the heat and was able to generate a number of scoring chances. Unfortunately, none ended in scores, until Floriani and Lara hooked up in the late going.

Saint Louis outshot Lipscomb 13-11, but the Bison had more shots on goal (8-6). SLU also earned more corner kicks (9-4).
Lara had five shots on goal in the game and Abonnel made six saves to lead the Billikens, who will begin Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend, when they’ll travel to Philadelphia to take on La Salle. Opening kick for that match is scheduled for 6 p.m., and it will be streamed live on ESPN+.
SLU’s next home game is Saturday, September 28, when the Billikens will host Loyola Chicago in a 7:30 p.m. match at Hermann Stadium.
