The Lindenwood University baseball team will host the NCAA Division II Midwest Regionals this weekend at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles.
The event will feature six teams that will battle in a double-elimination tournament to determine who advances to the NCAA National Championship Tournament, which will be played at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, NC in two weeks.
Lindenwood, champions of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, earned an automatic bid into this weekend’s regionals by winning the GLVC Tournament two weekends ago. The Lions will be the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Regionals and will play their first game on Thursday, May 27, against third-seeded Davenport. First pitch that night is scheduled for 8 p.m.
The other teams selected to play in the Midwest Regionals were Illinois-Springfield, Travecca Nazarene, Quincy University, and Northwood University. Illinois-Springfield was named the regional’s No. 1 seed, despite having lost to Lindenwood in the GLVC Tournament championship game on May 16.
Should Lindenwood win its game against Davenport, it would advance to the second round and play the winner of 2-seed vs. 5-seed game, which is Travecca Nazarene vs. Quincy. The winner of that game would then advance to the tournament winner’s bracket and need just two more wins to advances to the national tournament.
If Lindenwood were to lose its first game, the Lions would move into the loser’s bracket and would have to play the winner of the 1-seed vs. 6-seed game (Illinois-Springfield vs. Northwood) and need to win that game and three more elimination games after that to win the regional.
The regional championship game, no matter which teams are in it, will be played on Sunday, May 30 at 1 p.m.
