ST. CHARLES, MO — The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team had its three-game winning streak snapped in a rough 10-0 loss to Lindenwood University in a non-conference game at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.

UMSL had just three hits in the game and never had a runner advance past second base, while Lindenwood controlled the action from the start by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, before adding a run in the third, and then putting the game away with scoring bursts in the sixth and seventh innings.

Lindenwood’s top performers of the night were junior rightfielder Tanner Simpson and redshirt senior third baseman Bryson Arnette. Both players had two hits in the game and multiple runs batted in.

Simpson, a transfer from Lake Michigan Community College, had a two-run single in the first and a two-run double in the sixth. While Arnette had RBI singles in the sixth and seventh that helped the Lions earn a run-rule victory.

Junior first baseman Sam Grunberg had a hit, two RBIs, and scored three runs.

Starting pitcher Michael Walsh (2-1) earned the win, after going 4 2/3 scoreless innings, in which he allowed just two hits, a walk, a hit batter, with three strikeouts. It was the junior from CBC’s first start of the season and fifth career win.

Senior Carson Subbert pitched the final 2 1/3 innings and allowed just one hit and one walk, while striking out two.

The Lions are now 19-21 on the season. They’ll host Rockhurst University in another non-conference game on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

A rough night for the Division II Tritons did have a couple of bright spots.

Senior first baseman Barrett Rose had a hit and a walk to extend his hitting streak to eight games. And junior pitcher Bryce Stenzel pitched two scoreless innings and didn’t give up any hits or walks. It was his fourth straight scoreless appearance.

UMSL will off for the next week, before closing out its regular season with a four-game series next weekend against another crosstown rival, Maryville University. Those games will be May 1-3, at the UMSL Baseball Field.

The Tritons are currently in eighth place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings and will be looking to clinch a spot in the postseason at the GLVC Tournament in Marion, Ill., May 7-11.
