The Lindenwood University men’s hockey team won its fourth straight Central States Collegiate Hockey League championship, Sunday afternoon, thanks to a 9-2 victory over Iowa State in CSCHL tournament championship game at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights.
Senior forward Vergard Faret scored three goals and added an assist to lead the way, while teammate Brendan Murphy added two goals and two assists as the Lions (15-1) stormed past the Cyclones to claim yet another CSCHL title. Murphy’s two goals were his fourth and fifth of the tournament and helped earn him tournament MVP honors.
The Lindenwood offense once again bombarded the Iowa State defense with constant shots and attacks, outshooting the Cyclones 57-30 in the contest. Lions goalie Stephen Friedland stopped 28 of those 30 ISU shots on his way to the victory.
The Lions will now get set for the American Collegiate Hockey Association Men’s Division I National Championship Tournament, which will begin April 15, at the Maryville Hockey Center in Chesterfield.
Seeding for the tournament has not yet been announced, but Lindenwood is expected once again to be one of the tournament’s top seeded teams.
