The Lindenwood University men’s hockey team picked up a pair of big wins over the weekend, when it swept its two-game series over Army in West Point, N.Y.

Lindenwood won the two games by scores of 2-1 and 5-3. The two victories gave the Lions wins in three of their last four games, which included a series split against Bentley University last weekend.

In the game on Friday, goalkeeper Trent Burnham played perhaps his best game of the season, as he stopped 45 of Army’s 46 shots to lead Lindenwood to the win. Army scored first, at 13:50 of the first period, then didn’t score again, as Burnham denied the Black Knights throughout the night.

Lindenwood was able to rally back. First, thanks to a power play goal by Caleb Price at 19:20. Then, with what proved to be the game-winner by Hunter Johannes midway through the third period.

On Saturday, the Lions grabbed the lead 16 seconds in, on a breakaway goal by David Gagnon. Army tied the score a few minutes later, and the first period ended tied 1-1.

Lindenwood then took control in the second period, when it outscored Army 2-0, to take a 3-1 lead, on goals by Johannes and Price.

Army pulled to within 3-2 early in the third, but Lindenwood added two more scores to put the game away.

Cade DeStefani and Andy Willis, the players that scored the fourth and fifth goals for the Lions, both had a goal and an assist in the game, as did Gagnon. Johannes was the top scorer on the night though. He had a goal and two assists.

Overall, the Lions are 4-8-0 on the season, while Army fell to 1-7-1.

Lindenwood will be off this week, but will be back in action next weekend, when it travels up north to play longtime NCAA hockey power, Wisconsin. The Lions and Badgers will meet in Madison on November 18 and 19, and both games will be televised and streamed live on Big 10 Network Plus.
