LINCOLN, NE — The Lindenwood University men’s basketball team suffered a loss in its season opener, Monday evening, when it was defeated 84-52 on the road against Nebraska.
The Lions had a rough shooting night, making just 22-of-68 shots (32.4 percent), which included three-of-16 three-point attempts (18.7 percent).
“I thought it was a tale of two halves,” Lindenwood head coach Kyle Gerdeman said. “In the first half, they kind of overwhelmed us and they got off to a great shooting start, hitting nine threes. I was pleased how we came out in the second half. We found some easier shots on offense and we competed better on defense.”
Nebraska led 51-24 at halftime, but only outscored Lindenwood 33-28 in the second half.
Senior forward Keenon Cole led the Lions in scoring with 13 points. Sophomore Jeremiah Talton came off the bench to add 10 points.
Other contributors on Monday evening were forward Jaylon McDaniel, who scored six points and grabbed six rebounds, Darius Beane, who had six points and four rebounds, and David Ware, who was Lindenwood’s leading rebounder with seven, to go along with two steals and two blocks.
The Lions will be back in action on Thursday, when they’ll head to Ames to play Iowa State.
