After sitting out the 2020 fall season and the 2021 spring season due to the pandemic, the Lindenwood Athletics department has announced its 2021 fall football schedule. The Lions will play 11 games, five at home and six on the road, as they look to defend their 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference championship.
Lindenwood will begin the 2021 campaign with a Thursday night matchup at Hunter Stadium, on September 2 against Angelo State. The Rams were a 2019 NCAA Division II playoff team in 2019 and finished that season with an 8-3 record.
The season opener for the Lions and Rams will kick off at 7 p.m.
The following week, Lindenwood will face what may be its toughest game of the season, when it goes on the road to play Division I-FCS opponent South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D., on September 11.
From there, the Lions will be back home to take on Kentucky Wesleyan at Hunter Stadium on September 18. That game will also begin at 7 p.m.
Lindenwood will play its final non-conference game the following week, when it goes back on the road to play the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio, on September 25.
Week 5 is when Lindenwood will begin its conference play. The Lions will play each of its seven GLVC foes in seven consecutive weeks, with games at home against Quincy, Southwest Baptist, and McKendree, and games on the road against Truman State, Indianapolis, William Jewell, and Missouri S&T.
Lindenwood won the GLVC title in 2019 and will be looking to claim its second league title in a row.
The Lions will also be looking to make their second straight NCAA Division II playoff appearance. Lindenwood shocked their entire country back in 2019 by going on the road and winning its first round playoff game against No. 5-ranked Ouachita Baptist, 41-38.
Lindenwood finished the year with a 9-4 record but are hoping to top that this season.
