ST. CHARLES, MO — Cortezz Jones ran for two touchdowns, Logan Seibert broke the school’s career field-goal record and Lindenwood topped Charleston Southern 29-14, Saturday afternoon in a Big South-OVC Football Association game at Hunter Stadium.

Jones, Lindenwood’s transfer running back from Murray State, carried the ball 18 times for 55 yards, but scored touchdowns midway through the first quarter and late in the second that helped the host Lions build a 20-0 lead.

Charleston Southern scored two defensive touchdowns in the final 80 seconds of the first half to make the game close again. But Lindenwood’s run game and defense dominated the day and made sure the visiting Buccaneers never got closer than the 20-14 halftime score.

“Barring two back to back crazy plays at the end of the first half, I thought our guys played a really good football game,” Lindenwood head coach Jed Stugart said. “We obviously need to stress, taking care of the football, but was really pleased with our resiliency coming out of half to take the momentum back with a quick takeaway by our D. That says a lot about our team. Our defense shut them out and gave us that momentum to pull out a great win against a good football team.”

Seibert, Lindenwood’s pro prospect kicker, made five five goals, giving the junior 41 in his career, which passed Halley Ferrell (2006-08) for the all-time career record. A junior from Belleville, Ill., Seibert made kicks from 34, 21, 37, 22, and 27 yards, as the Lions controlled the ball the entire day.

Lindenwood outgained Charleston Southern 392 yards to 197, produced 25 first downs to the Buccaneers’ eight, and held the ball for more than 40 of the game’s 60 minutes. The Lion defense produced four turnovers — two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Linebacker Jacob Waller led that effort with six tackles (five solo) and a fumble recovery. Defensive backs Jayden Patrick and Jaylan Wesley made the interceptions, while fellow DB Tre Bell had the other fumble recovery.

Quarterback Nate Glantz threw for 152 yards and ran for 103, as Lindenwood improved its overall record to 3-4 and its Big South-OVC mark to 2-1. Charleston Southern, which has now lost four games in a row is 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Kickoff on Saturday is slated for 12:30 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
