The Lindenwood University softball team picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday, when it swept a doubleheader over Lincoln University at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles.
The Lions, who have now won six straight games, earned both of Tuesday’s victories in shutout fashion, thanks to a 4-0 victory in Game 1 and a 1-0 walkoff win in Game 2.
Senior centerfielder Ceairra Perez and sophomore pitcher Amanda Weyh played key roles in both games. Perez had a hit and an RBI in both contests, with her hit in Game 2 driving in the game-winning run. And Weyh came in in relief in Game 1 to get the save, then started Game 2 and pitched a complete-game shutout to pick up the win.
Other key contributors in Game 1 were seniors Hannah Johnson and Megan Clark, and junior Taylor Bushman, who all had RBI hits for the Lions.
Freshman pitcher Brianna Macias (1-0), who picked up her first win as college player, when she came in to relieve starter Madison Corwell, and tossed 4 2/3 innings of shutout ball at the Tigers to keep Lindenwood in the lead.
Game 2 was scoreless all the way until the bottom of the seventh, when Clark led off the inning with a walk and then reached second on a sacrifice bunt. She then raced home to score the game-winning run on Perez’s line-shot single to right. That basehit was Perez’s third of the game and fourth of the day.
Weyh (6-3) was simply fantastic in the circle in that second contest, tossing a full seven innings of scoreless ball, while striking out 10 Lincoln batters, and allowing just two hits and two walks.
The two victories raised Lindenwood’s overall season record to 16-4-1. And the Lions will look to extend their current six-game winning streak when they return to Great Lakes Valley Conference action and conclude their current homestand with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 3, against Lewis University.
Game 1 of the twinbill is set to begin at noon, with Game 2 slated for a 2 p.m. start.
