Even though it lost its game this past Saturday at Missouri State, two Lindenwood players received honors when the Big South-OVC Football Association announced its weekly awards on Monday.
Freshman running back Steven Hall and senior linebacker Vincent King both received awards. Hall was named the league’s Co-Freshman of the Week and King was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week, following their performances last Saturday.
Hall, a redshirt freshman and native St. Louisan, who played his high school ball at MICDS, had his best game yet as a college player. The 5-foot-9, 195-pounder rushed for a career high 100 yards and averaged 7.7 yards per carry in the Lions’ 28-14 loss to Missouri State.
Hall leads Lindenwood in rushing through three games, with 185 yards on 31 carries, and is tied for second-most on the team with seven receptions. The Lions have seven new starters on offense and Hall has been one of the team’s bright spots through the early part of the season.

King is one of Lindenwood’s six new starters on defense and he was all over the field against Missouri State. The 6-foot, 231-pounder from Denver, who came to Lindenwood this year after playing three seasons at Northern Colorado, recorded a career-high 17 tackles (11 solo), with two of those stops being tackles for loss, including a quarterback sack.
This was King’s second straight game with double-digit tackles. He had 11 tackles in Lindenwood’s home opener on September 7 against Central Arkansas.
King now leads the Lions in tackles with 31 and tackles for loss with 2.5.
The Lions (0-3) will be back on the field, looking for their first win, this Saturday, when they host St. Thomas (1-2) in a game at Hunter Stadium. Kickoff that day is set for 1 p.m.
