SPRINGFIELD, MO — The Lindenwood Lions gave up long touchdown drives on each of its first three defensive possessions to fall behind 21-0 and were never able to rally back against host Missouri State, in what proved to be a 28-14 loss, Saturday night at MSU’s Plaster Stadium.
Missouri State racked up 476 yards of total offense and snagged three interceptions in the second half to keep Lindenwood neutralized in the Bears’ first win of the season. Lindenwood fell to 0-3.
“Right now we’re a team that shows flashes of being a great team,” Lindenwood head coach Jed Stugart said. “We know we got a team that doesn’t quit, but we need to figure out how we can put four quarters together, and that begins Monday at practice. We need to finish the rest of this teams foundation and we’re gonna be alright.”
The Lions did have their best offensive game of the season so far. Lindenwood put up 201 passing yards and 127 rushing yards for a total of 328.
Freshman running back Steve Hall carried the ball 13 times for 100 yards — his first 100-yard game as a college player — and receiver Jeff Caldwell caught six passes for 137 yards and a touchdown — the sixth 100-yard game of his career.

Missouri State took control of the game early. On its opening possession, the Bears drove 85 yards on six plays, culminating with a 32-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jacob Clark to wideout Jmariyae Robinson to put the Bears up 7-0.
After stopping Lindenwood on its second possession, MSU went right down the field again for 86 yards on nine plays. This time, the final play was a 10-yard touchdown toss from Clark to Lance Mason.
The Bears stopped the Lions again on their next possession, then drove the field again for a score by Jacardia Wright that made it 21-0.
Lindenwood had its best drive of the game on the next possession. The Lions went 79 yards on nine plays, before finally getting on the board on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Nate Glantz. The score at halftime was 21-7.
Wright scored his second touchdown of the night on Missouri State’s first possession of the second half. That made the score 28-7.
The score stayed that way until late in the fourth, when Caldwell broke free for a 79-yard touchdown from backup QB Tyler Kubat.
