MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO — The Lindenwood University men’s hockey team snapped a four-game losing and seven-game winless streak (0-5-2), with a convincing 5-3 victory over Augustana University, Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center.

Five different players scored goals for the Lions, including Cade DeStefani, Kabore Dunn, and Kyle Jeffers, who each had a goal and an assist. Zach Aughe and Jake Southgate also scored for Lindenwood, with DeStefani scoring what proved to be the game-winner on a power play, two minutes into the third period.

Jeffers and Dunn scored their goals in the first period to give Lindenwood a 2-0 lead, but Augustana answered with a pair of goals of its own to tie it midway through the second.

The Lions took the lead for good though, later in the second, when Southgate scored to make it 3-2. DeStefani scored early in the third to make it 4-2, and Aughe added his score later to put the home team up 5-2.

Augustana got one back near the end of the third, but it wasn’t enough, as Lindenwood goalkeeper Trent Burnham made 41 saves to preserve the win.

“It’s great to win,” Lindenwood head coach Rick Zombo said. “Learning the sacrifices to win at this level was a good lesson. Now I’d hope we can retain that knowledge because the good feeling will go away.”

Lindenwood is now 2-6-2 on the season. The Lions will be back in action next weekend, when they host a two-game series against Long Island University.

Those games will be played on Friday and Saturday at the Centene Community Ice Center. Friday’s contest will begin at 7:10 p.m., with Saturday’s matchup scheduled for a 2:10 p.m. start.
