The Ohio Valley Conference release on late Sunday evenings, it’s weekly football award winners, following that weekend’s games. And this week, the OVC announced that two Lindenwood players would be honored.

Linebacker Tyrone Griffin was named the conference’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week, and teammate Logan Seibert was named Co-Special Teams Player of the Week.

Then on Monday, it was announced that Lindenwood’s Andrew Martin had been named FedEx Ground FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week.

Griffin, a sophomore from Brownsburg, Ind., playing in his first game as a Lion after transferring to Lindenwood from Indiana State during the offseason, made a terrific debut. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder led the team with nine total tackles, which included two solo stops and seven assisted tackles.

Griffin was also in on two sacks, broke up two passes, and was a key factor in the LU defense holding Houston Baptist to just 20 points overall, and a mere three points in the second half. A big reason why the Lions were able to pull off their sensational last second comeback was because the Houston Baptist offense was not allowed to score more points than it did.

Seibert, Lindenwood’s sensational sophomore kicker, was nothing short of clutch in the team’s first win of the season. The Belleville, Ill., native was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals, banging home two 44-yard kicks and a 41-yarder as well.

Martin, a sophomore running back, who had 49 rushing yards in the game and scored a rushing touchdown, earned his honor by recovering that blocked punt in the end zone with 28 seconds left that gave Lindenwood its first win as a NCAA Division I program.

The Lions will be back in action this Saturday, September 17, when they’ll host Keiser University. That game at Hunter Stadium will kickoff at 6 p.m.
