COLUMBIA, MO — The new college football Top 25 rankings were released for this week and it turned out to be a thumbs-up, thumbs-down scenario for the University of Missouri.

The Tigers clung on to the final spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll, but dropped just out of the Associated Press Top 25, following their 49-39 loss to LSU last Saturday.

After spending two weeks as a ranked team and reaching as high as No. 21, Missouri dropped to being the first team out — just below the No. 25 spot, which is now held by the University of Miami.

Missouri, 5-1 overall and 1-1 in SEC play, has five wins at the halfway point of the regular season for the first time since 2019. The Tigers are No. 25 in the coaches poll, where Miami sits as the first team out.

LSU moved up in both polls, after defeating Mizzou. Those Tigers are No. 20 in the coaches poll and No. 22 in the AP poll.

Mizzou will get its next chance to improve on its ranking, this Saturday, when it faces No. 23/24 Kentucky in an SEC game in Lexington. It was also announced this week that that game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised live on SEC Network.

Kentucky will come into Saturday’s contest having also suffered its first loss of the season. The Wildcats lost 51-13 to No. 1 Georgia.

In the last 11 seasons, the winner of the Mizzou-Kentucky game has finished higher than the other in the SEC East standings.
