They knew it was coming. And it turned out to be about as bad as they thought it would.

The University of Missouri football team fell 12 spots in the new Associated Press Top 25 poll, which came out on Monday.

The Tigers, who went into last weekend ranked No. 9 in the country, fell to No. 21, following last Saturday’s 41-10 beatdown against Texas A&M.

Some thought Missouri might fall completely out of the Top 25, but with several other major upsets occurring on Saturday, the Tigers didn’t even suffer the biggest fall. That honor — probably not an honor — went to Michigan, which 14 spots, from No. 10 to No. 24.

In the USA Today Coaches Poll, Mizzou remained in the top 20, by landing at No. 18.

No. 1-ranked Alabama lost to Vanderbilt and fell six spots to No. 7. Tennessee lost to unranked Arkansas and fell four spots to No. 8. Those falls allowed several teams to move up.

Texas is the new No. 1, after starting at No. 2 last week. Ohio State moved up from No. 3 to No. 2. Oregon jumped from No. 6 to No. 3 and Penn State went from No. 7 to No. 4. Georgia beat Auburn in comfortable fashion and remained at No. 5.

Miami pulled off an incredible comeback at Cal and moved up from No. 8 to No. 6. Alabama and Tennessee are 7 and 8, while Ole Miss moved back into the Top 10 at No. 9 and Clemson jumped to No. 10.

For the way it handled Mizzou, Texas A&M made the biggest jump up of anyone in the poll. The Aggies went from No. 25 to No. 15.

They’ll have a chance to move even more in the next couple of weeks. The Aggies go on the road to play lowly Mississippi State this week, then will host No. 13 LSU next week.

Mizzou will get its chance to right its ship this week, when it goes back on the road to play UMass. Kickoff for that game, which will be televised on ESPN2, is set for 11 a.m.

The Tigers also found out on Monday that next week’s home game against Auburn will be at either 11 a.m. or 11:45 a.m. The official announcement will be made in the coming days.

If Auburn/Mizzou play at 11, the game will be on ESPN. If they play at 11:45, it’ll be on the SEC Network.
