The first College Football Playoff Rankings were released this week and the Missouri Tigers came in at No. 12.

The 13-person committee will determine which four teams qualify for the college football playoffs and the other eight teams that will participate in the other New Year’s Six bowl games.

Being ranked 12th is the highest any Missouri team has ever been ranked by the CFP. The last time Mizzou was ranked was Week 14 of the 2020 season, when the Tigers were ranked No. 25.

Missouri’s previous highest ranking was as No. 16 in the final poll of the 2014 season.

Ohio State is the top team in the rankings, with two-time defending national champion Georgia right behind at No. 2.

The Buckeyes earned the No. 1 slot due to wins over No. 11 Penn State and No. 15 Notre Dame earlier this season. Michigan, Florida State and Washington make out the remaining Top 5.

Oregon is No. 6 and is the top team in the rankings with a loss. The Ducks lost to Washington two weeks ago. Oregon is followed by Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma and Ole Miss to round out the top 10.

Mizzou will get its chance to move up the rankings this weekend, when it faces Georgia in a battle that could determine the SEC East champion.

Saturday’s contest in Athens will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally on CBS.
