The SEC’s 2024 Preseason Football Poll came out on Friday and the Missouri Tigers were picked to finish sixth in the newly-expanded, division-less, 16-team league.

Georgia was the named the favorite to win the title, with newcomer Texas picked to finish second. Alabama was third, with Mississippi, and LSU coming in fourth and fifth, respectively, ahead of Mizzou.

Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Auburn rounded out the top 10, with Kentucky, Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt making up the final six spots.

Georgia received 165 votes to be crowned SEC champion on December 7, when the SEC title game will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Texas was picked to be the Bulldogs’ opponent in the Longhorns’ first season in the league. Texas received 27 votes to win the SEC Championship.

This will mark the first season since 1991 with no divisions in SEC Football. The participants of the game will be determined during the eight-game regular-season conference schedule as the teams with the two best overall SEC winning percentages.

Only nine times since 1992 (32 years) has the predicted champion prior to the season at SEC Media Days proceeded to win the SEC Championship Game.

Last year, Mizzou went 11-2 overall and 5-2 in SEC play to finish second in the SEC West Division.

The Tigers will begin the 2024 season on Thursday, August 29, when they’ll host Murray State in a non-conference game at Faurot Field.

Here is the media’s predicted order of finish based on poll points earned through the voting system. A first-place vote is worth 16 points, second-place 15 points, etc. This is the first time the SEC will not feature two divisions since 1991.
