LAWRENCE, KS — In front of a raucous full house of 16.300 angry rival fans, the University of Missouri men’s basketball team got off to a flying start in its matchup against No. 2-ranked Kansas.

Unfortunately, the Tigers couldn’t sustain it and eventually lost, 73-64, to the archrival Jayhawks.

Missouri led 15-6 early and 29-27 late in the first half, but Kansas closed the half with a 14-0 run that gave them a 41-29 lead.

From that point on, Mizzou never got closer than eight points before eventually losing by nine.

Four KU players scored in double-figures, led by freshmen KJ Adams and Kevin McCullar, who both had 17 points. All-American candidate center Hunter Dickinson had 13 points and 16 rebounds, which helped the Jayhawks control the paint.

Mizzou’s Sean East II led all scorers with 21 points and also had six assists, which helped the Tigers keep the game close late in the second half. Teammate Nick Honor had 17 points, which included four three-pointers. But it wasn’t enough to keep Mizzou in a game against the second-ranked team in the country.

The loss dropped Mizzou’s record to 7-3. The Tigers will get eight days off before returning to the court next Sunday, December 17, with a game against Seton Hall that will be played at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.

Following that contest, Missouri will be in St. Louis on December 22 for its annual Braggin’ Rights Game against Illinois. That matchup will tip at 8 p.m., and be played at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
