COLUMBIA, MO — Six players scored in double figures as the University of Missouri men’s basketball team took control late in the first half and cruised through the second half for a 102-68 victory over South Dakota, Thursday night at Mizzou Arena.
The victory allowed Missouri to stay unbeaten at 6-0, while South Dakota fell to 3-3.
Senior forwards Mark Mitchell and Jevon Porter led the way for Mizzou. Mitchell scored a game-high 22 points, while Porter went a perfect nine-for-nine shooting and registered his first double-double of the year, with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Jacob Crews had 15 points, Sebastian Mack added 13 points, while Jayden Stone scored 12 points, and Anthony Robinson put up 11 points and a team-high six assists to round out Mizzou’s top scorers.
“That was a good win for us,” Mizzou head coach Dennis Gates said. “A lot of guys played. A lot of guys played well. We didn’t play great defense early, but I thought we got better. And then in the second half, I thought we were excellent. It was a good win and a good night for us.”

The teams traded baskets early in the contest, until Mitchell hammered home a two-handed dunk to shift momentum. Moments later, Stone drilled a 3-pointer, and freshman Nicholas Randall followed with a slam on the next possession to give Mizzou a 20-10 advantage midway through the first half.
South Dakota fought back with and even put together an 8-0 run, which allowed the Coyotes to take their first lead, 26-25. But Missouri answered with a pair of six-point runs, highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers from Robinson and Crews to help the Tigers regain the lead. A Robinson layup at the buzzer gave Mizzou a 53-42 advantage at the break, which was the home team’s largest lead of the first half.
Mizzou opened the second period on a 12-4 run, fueled by seven points from Mitchell, to seize firm control of the game, and stretch its lead to 19 less than five minutes into the half.
The big run of the night came later, when Mizzou scored 14 straight unanswered poitns and built its largest lead at 83-54.
“I think just as the game goes on, you know, we get familiar with the opponent out there,” Porter said. “And then also, I think we have a great endurance to us by the way we practice, how hard we go in practice.
“It’s just continuing to play as hard as we possibly can in the second half and just realizing what we need to do. The coaches do a good job of adjustments during halftime, and then we just come out and try to execute that.”

Mizzou will enjoy the weekend off, before returning to action on Tuesday, November 25, with a home game against South Carolina State. Tip off at Mizzou Arena that evening is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
