University of Missouri graduate senior guard Sean East II did not hear his named called during the two days of the NBA Draft on Wednesday and Thursday. But he didn’t have to wait long after to find himself a team to be part of.

East signed an Exhibit 10 deal — a one-year, minimum contract that can be converted into a two-way contract — with the Los Angeles Lakers late Thursday evening.

The Louisville, Ky. native spent two seasons with Mizzou, helping the program earn its first NCAA tournament berth and win in a decade in 2023.

This past season, East led Missouri with a career-high 17.6 points per game average, while also shooting 52.1% from the field, 45.0% from the 3-point line and 85.6% from the free throw line. East also averaged 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.1 steals.

Before joining Mizzou, East played at Massachusetts, Bradley, and John A. Logan College, where he was named the 2022 national junior college Player of the Year.

This spring, East participated in multiple workoout camps and showcase tournaments hosted by NBA clubs during the pre-draft process. East was also invited to a private workout by several clubs, including the Lakers, which it was reported he did well at and likely helped him earn a chance to sign with the team.

East becomes the third Tiger under head coach Dennis Gates to receive an NBA contract, joining former Mizzou standouts Kobe Brown and D’Moi Hodge, who also signed with the Lakers as an undrafted free agent last year.

The 6-foot-2 guard is now likely to play in the NBA Summer League, which will begin play in Las Vegas in July.
